The following guidelines and rules for qualification competition at regional
and national showjumping rally were approved for 2001 at the VRPC Regional
Council meeting at the National Sporting Library on February 24th. Please
pass on this information to your members, especially those intending to
compete at the Horse 2 or above levels.
1. The SJ Committee is YOUR (the DCs) resource! USE the committee for finding
coaches, setting up a teaching program, providing clinics, choosing
competition level or any other support you need. The DCs have the
responsibility to get the kids ready and send them in divisions in which they
can successfully and safely compete, and to ask the committee for guidance if
they feel they cannot make those decisions.
2. We are offering 3-4 clinics: late March or April 1st(Sunday)-an open
gridwork schooling day, bring your own coach or, for a fee, we will provide
one. Probably at Foxcroft in the indoor, groups organized by experience. A
Pony Club safe, no pressure opportunity to school.
April-low gridwork and basic coursework with Rick Sullivan
May-clinic with Bert Mutch
May/June-a showjumping related horse-management/fitness/prep for heat clinic
3. The following qualifications for Championships are to try out this year
and be evaluated at the November meeting. We will be expecting feedback at
the rally in order to make changes for next year. These are in tune with
rules other regions have been using for years, but are very generous:
No eliminations
Maximum six rails overall
Two stops overall
In order to compete in the Horse II, III or IV divisions at the Virginia
Regional Rally competitors must show written proof that they have competed in
an open show(schooling or recognized) at that level without elimination.
Proof can be a list of classes and shows, compiled by the pony-clubber,
preferably with a judge's signature. A judge's signature is not required for
shows completed before March 15th, 2001.
The decision regarding who will qualify will NOT be made at the end of the
rally, but 24-48 hours afterward.
The rally, organized by Middleburg-Orange County Pony Club, will feature Gegi
as the course designer, with courses set up by Pat Leins, et. al., in Gegi’s
abscence. There will be 3 rounds, all judged for equitation, (only one round
scored for equitation bonus) with a new judge’s card with full explanation to
the kids on Saturday afternoon.
REMINDER: Please have your coach lined up as soon as possible so he or she
can get to know the kids and horses well before the rally!

To all Pony Clubbers interested in Tetrathlon:
We had a Rules abnd shooting Clinic on March 3.
Many people have stepped forward as volunteers to assist me in Tetrathalon,
which I greatly appreciate. There are, however, several other key positions
that need filling. If you are interested in helping in any of the following
please contact me either by email or phone (540-364-4141):
-Jumping Timer
-Scribes for Horse Management (4-5 people)
-Traffic Control and Package Distribution as people arrive (2 people)
-Masters Competition Coordinator (1)
-Friday night (May 18) Jump Crew (7-8 people)
-Shooting Crew-Range Setup (4-5 people)
-Check-in person Friday night to direct people to their assigned stalls
-Host families coordinator
-T-shirt sales coordinator
There will be other opportunities to help during the Regional competition
such as swimming timers, range assistants, running course observers, etc.
Click below for entry forms
Here's the plan for a Masters Level competition during the May Tetrathlon
Rally.
We will compete as teams where each member of the team (4 to a team) will
compete in one phase: running, shooting, swimming or jumping. All will be
performed at the Junior division level. We will let children, perhaps the
older kids, serve as judges and timers. Awards will be presented. We allow
scramble teams where if someone cannot find three other teammates then they
will ask someone from another team to use their times from their respective
phase. For instance you have a shooter, swimmer and a jumper on your team
but cannon find a runner. You would ask someone else from another team who
is that team's runner, to serve as your runner (a virtual runner, if you
will). But that person would not run a second time, just use his/her time
from the first run. Make sense, or did I just confuse matters?
If you're interested in competing in what ought to be much fun for the adults
and kids, please organize a team and get back with me with the following
information:
Team Members names, addresses and emails (Identify who's the team captain).
List which team member will do what phase.
Team Name.
Cost is $5 per person ($20 team). Please make the checks out to CWPC. Mail
them to Alice Laimbeer, P.O. Box 239, Amissville, VA 20106. Please note
"Masters" in the Memo section of your check.
You jumpers, remember if you don't use your child's horse and want to stable
your own at Glenwood, it will cost $15/day.
Thanks,
Call if you have questions.

Pony Clubbers Report on Millennium Conference in Toronto : August 2000
Nationals in Toronto was fabulous. I really enjoyed meeting new people, making new friends,
and testing in a different situation than that to which I was accustomed. The hotel we were
staying in was very nice and having the competition in the same building as we stayed in
made it a lot easier than in the past years.
The United States Nationals was very interesting, as I was on a team with two pony clubbers
from Utah. It was interesting to hear what Pony Club was like there, and it showed me how
lucky the Virginia Region is to have so many facilities so close at hand. In the
International Quiz, I was on a team with two Canadians and another girl from the States
(I believe she was from Vermont).
There were no senior/junior divisions, all the competitors competed on the same level.
The mega room setup was used, which I found to be very interesting (this setup
consisted
of a room of tables with different questions at each one). In the International Competition,
almost none of the questions you could study for; some riddles and some were matching the
name and picture of famous riders and other such things. I ended up second in Nationals
and fourth in Internationals. I look forward to possibly attending another conference in
future years. It was a great learning experience and a load of fun!
By Stephanie King, Dominion Valley Pony Club
My experience in Toronto is truly unforgettable. I was so excited when I found out I
qualified – I even had wanted to dye my hair red, white and blue to get into the spirit.
However, when I also qualified to go to both Toronto and then go to Lexington, Virginia
for the show jumping nationals, I was torn over which one I should go to. We did not have
the money to afford to do both, but I went ahead and decided to go on to Toronto. Boy, am
I glad I made that choice! The pony club spirit was so incredible, and everyone was so
friendly. It was nice to be in the hotel in which everything was taking place, so we
didn’t have to rush. The C-Knowdown couldn’t have been put together any better, and I
send my thanks to Mrs. Noggle for doing such a tremendous and outstanding job.
The seminars were very educational and fun to sit in on. The international Quiz was great,
and I was able to learn how Canada’s rating system worked. The Closing Ceremonies really
put a highlight on the whole event. Everyone was cheerful as several people gave speeches
on how pony club had changed their lives. I left Canada having made several friends -
Canadian and pony clubbers across the U.S. It truly was a great experience and made my
summer worthwhile!!
